Thank you to Goodreads giveaways and TellWell Publishing for this e-book ARC.

I simply cannot believe this is a debut. If this is what Anna Rigg can do, assume I'll be adding her to my automatic pre-order list. And this isn't even my typical genre!

History repeats itself, right? Sins of the Mother is a tale of a family that cannot outrun it sins. I went into this knowing ZERO storyline and I feel that just amped it up for me. Book one of The Barber Legacy, I had to look for a release date for the next, and -sigh- it's sometime later this year. I'll be in anticipation.

When you finish, head over to her website, she has an entire section dedicated to the Real Life Inspiration of the characters. I'm tearing through that over coffee this morning, after reading this book straight through the night. So well written, so good, FIVE stars.

As a debut novel from this author, I have to say I really enjoyed it and was invested in the characters of the story and am excited to see what comes from Anna Rigg next!

Many a gasp and a sigh whilst reading which kept me invested. The book felt very familiar like an old favourite, hard to put down and I was sad to finish it. Slightly different from my usual picks but this was a comfortable read. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment of Mary's adventures and how Amelia flourishes.

Great read, would recommend!

Oh my goodness what an intriguing book.

A family torn apart by evil has endless repercussions, even into the next generation.

Wonderful characters with some heart stopping twists.

What will come next for them all?

Set in 19th century rural Suffolk England, Sins of the Mother featured the saga of the Barber family. It chronicled how shoemaker Charles Barber met his future wife, Penelope, daughter of a blacksmith, how Charles became estranged with her cretin brother Will, how his relationship with his unlikable mother Rachel was strained, how Mary, the child of Charles and Penelope came to know her real father and so many other juicy and scandalous developments that create intrigue and spark curiosity for the peruser. The next generational story ensues when aspirational social climber Mary Barber grows up and came to work as a maid in Innesvale Manor for a noble and well heeled household.

The debut novel showcases the promising and adept storytelling skills of the author. The whole ensemble of characters was portrayed with clarity and relatability that the reader could not help but be invested emotionally in the drama of the Barber clan. The interaction among the alluring and colourful personalities of the protagonists and antagonists is the driving force behind the plot outline. The inconclusive and open ending of the book make a strong case for the followers to clamour and hanker for a continuation of this fascinating and mesmerising tale.

Sins of the Mother was brought to my attention by a friend. It’s not my usual genre so I started to read with an open mind. I found a story that I was enchanted by and met characters that I loved and despised. The subtle twists and turns kept the story fresh and intriguing all the way through. Visiting the website and discovering the basis for these characters has left me excitedly looking forward to their continued stories and eagerly awaiting the release of the next book in the series.
